Winter's been around for a little while now however we're finally starting to feel the cold! While some of you snuggle bunnies may love the cold, the biting winds and frigid temperatures are not kind to our hands. It saps the moisture right out leaving our hands dry, rough and cracked. And to top it off dehydrated hands can lead to brittle nails! Never fear we have just what you need to save your paws this Winter.
Know Your Moisturiser
Just as all polishes are not created equal - neither are all hand creams. Look for hand creams with softening and soothing properties like shea butter, vitamin E and coconut oil. These creams will nourish your hands while smelling divine. If you're after something a little more natural as a concentrated treatment go straight to the source - just before bed rub on some coconut oil or any nut oil of your choice. This will soak in undisturbed by hand washing or daily wear as you sleep. By the time you wake any oily residue will be gone and you'll be left with baby soft, nourished hands.
Love Your Gloves
Take a leaf out of our Gossip Girl handbook and accessorise with gloves. Not just a fashion statement, gloves protect our hands from damage when the temperature plummets.
Put Your Mask On
At least once a fortnight (weekly is best) during the cold season when you're doing your weekly/fortnightly face mask - do one for your hands as well. Just as with your face, a mask will hydrate the skin and protect against future damage. And it's so easy to make at home! Just mix a couple of tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil (or any nut oils you have handy), a splash of fresh lemon, one egg yolk and a dash of rosewater. Completely coat your hands and let soak for 20-30 minutes before rinsing. Finish with some cuticle oil and moisturiser.
Don't Diss the Spritz
A lot of moisture is lost during the day. You can quickly replace any lost moisture with a few sprays of rosewater. As well as instantly hydrating, your hands will smell divine!
Don't Forget Your Cuticles
Last but not least - don't neglect your cuticles! The beginnings of healthy nails start with healthy cuticles so while you're taking care of the rest of your digits don't forget these little guys. Ideally every time you moisturise you should whip on some cuticle cream or oil however once a day right before you go to bed is just fine!
How will you be looking after your digits this Winter?
