If you've got the basics down but can't seem to achieve the flawless manis that you see in blogs and tutorials, we've got some trade secrets to help perfect that mani of yours!
Preparation:
Preparation is key to a long lasting, professional looking manicure. If the nail bed isn't sufficiently cleaned the residual dirt and oils can cause early lifting and peeling as well as not providing a clean, smooth surface for application - and no one likes a bumpy mani!
Prep also means trimming, filing and tidying up your nails. Begin by trimming your nails to your desired length and then filing into your preferred shape. If you're unsure what shape you are or how to achieve it you can find our previous blog posts here. Once you've achieved your desired shape push back your cuticles with a cuticle stick.
When doing an Epic Nail Mani the nail must be cleaned with 100% pure acetone immediately prior to applying your base coat. Make sure that all your prep is done prior to cleaning as filing can leave fine nail particles on your nail which can stop the polish from adhering properly.
Thin Coats:
Live by the motto "It's better to do more thinner coats than fewer thicker coats". Thinner coats are easier to control. You may need to do an extra coat or two however it is well worth getting that flawless result. Patience is a virtue ladies - it pays off!
Clean Up:
This is our handiest hint - you see the lovely talented blogger whom you have nail envy for doesn't actually apply her polish so flawlessly. She just cleans up well! With Epic Nail Polish the key is to clean up prior to curing. Once the polish is cured it is not going anywhere! So before curing each coat dip a small brush into some acetone and clean up and of your little indiscretions around your nail - you'd be surprised how much difference this makes.
'Cap' Your Nails:
Have you noticed that the very tip of your nails begin to wear a little - and tend to chip at the tips of your nails? Well capping is your new best friend. Capping your nails creates a seal around and slightly under the tip of your nail which helps prevent wearing and chipping. To cap your nail simply run a bead of polish along the tip of your nail - do this for all coat i.e. base, colour and top coats.
Hydrate:
Last but not least - hydrate. There is nothing worse than cracked cuticles and flaky fingers to make a gorgeous mani unsightly. Make sure you are taking care of your hands and nails by moisturising them regularly and massaging with cuticle cream or oil.
